SYSS: Swiss Young Spine Surgeons
Definition
The Swiss Young Spine Surgeons (SYSS) was founded to support residents and young specialists drawn to the evolving field of spinal surgery. Modern spinal surgery is built on close collaboration between orthopedic and neurosurgical disciplines, forming the “Schwerpunkt” (Interdisciplinary Spine Surgery Subspecialty).
While technological advances have improved training resources, the sheer volume of material can overwhelm those in surgical training. SYSS, a group of two young neurosurgeons and two orthopedic surgeons within the Swiss Society of Spinal Surgery, is committed to guiding neurosurgical and orthopedic residents and junior consultants interested in spine surgery.
With administrative demands limiting hands-on training, we provide advice on pathways in Neurosurgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Traumatology, and the Schwerpunkt. Our goal is to work alongside existing groups—such as the Swiss Young Neurosurgeons (SYNS), AOSpine, and accredited hospitals—to complement their programs through course support, observerships, and webinars.
As part of the Swiss Society of Spinal Surgery, we also promote young members at the annual congress and highlight educational opportunities nationwide.
